Noelani Goodyear-Ka’opua is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. She is the author of The Seeds We Planted: Portraits of a Native Hawaiian Charter School.
Ikaika Hussey is the Founder and Publisher of the award-winning news magazine the Hawai?i Independent. Ikaika has been a community organizer and advocate for Hawaiian independence for fifteen years.
Erin Kahunawaika’ala Wright is the Director of Native Hawaiian Student Services in the Hawai?inuiakea School of Hawaiian Knowledge at the University of Hawai?i at Manoa.
Edward W. Greevy is a freelance photographer whose career spans more than forty years.

Professionally competent and effective.

Aloha.
As festive season approaches this book as an opinion makes for an outstanding gift to any household, well structured and lavishly illustrated with copious photographs by surmounting and surpassing expectations. The authors embrace a systematic approach throughout with multi-faceted meticulous attention to the many activists over the decades. The book projects energising optimism that Hawaiian culture has much to offer mankind globally provided we have the wisdom to listen.
While the authors contend the publication is not intended to be a comprehensive accounting of all the people, lands, and events that have composed the contemporary Hawaiian movement (the Kahana valley evictions being a case in point) they have successfully embellished a competent masterpiece in just under 400-pages utilising clear and concise language. It was heartening to come across two photographs of the late Hawaiian Kingdom patriot Richard Pomai Kinney within the content, the backgrounds to numerous other activists adds to the book's numerous core strengths. Well done to the authors for their scholarly analytical framework and timely publication.

Great source material and a strong basis for understanding the Hawaiian sovereignty movement

For anyone who wants to understand the Hawaiian desire for sovereignty, this book covers the intellectual and the emotional arguments, sometimes at the same time. I used the book as primary research material for a fictional romance set on the Big Island, and I couldn't have expressed the way I felt about living in Hawai'i as a non-Hawaiian without it.
